Basketball is once again ready to take over Niagara! For the second time in less than a month, the Niagara Sport Commission is set to host an Ontario Cup event, bringing together some of the province’s most impressive young basketball talent! From May 1 to 3, 2015, the U16 Major Midget Girls will make their way to the Region, each looking for a shot at Ontario Cup gold!
The tournament will consist of eight divisions and feature 62 teams from across Ontario. Venues across St. Catharines, Welland, and Niagara Falls will house a full weekend of action, wherein players will look to end their seasons with a fun, competitive, and ultimately successful experience. From tip off to medal presentations, this weekend is sure to provide a boisterous and exciting atmosphere surrounding an impressive display of on-court skill.
The 2015 U16 Major Midget Girls Ontario Cup will look to build off of the great successes from last year’s event, which also took place in the Niagara Region. Transway Juel Prep were the big winners from the weekend, earning Division 1 Gold for their undefeated efforts. Division 2, meanwhile, saw some hometown success, as the Niagara Falls Red Raiders Juel Prep team took home top spot after a tough-fought round robin. Goulbourn (Division 3), Etobicoke Thunder #1 (Division 4), Capital Xelles #1 (Division 5), Barrie Royals (Division 6), Ancaster Magic (Division 7), Niagara Rangers (Division 8), and Etobicoke Thunder #2 (Division 9) rounded out the Gold Medal winners from the 2014 event.
The Niagara Sport Commission would like to wish all participants good luck, as Niagara prepares to host so many talented teams and looks forward to a wonderful weekend of basketball!
